SOUTH STREET SEAPORT — Beer, wine and gourmet snacks are on the way to Pier 16 this summer.

City Hall Restaurant chef Henry Meer is slated to open a food and drinks kiosk, with seating for about 100 people, on the Seaport pier this July, Meer said.

Some of the revenue from the eatery is going to support the South Street Seaport Museum, he said.

"I want to help revitalize that area," said Meer, who lives in the neighborhood. "We're not sure exactly what it will look like yet, but we're excited to open on the pier."

The museum's fleet of tall, historic ships sit docked in the water at Pier 16. With neighboring Pier 17 currently a massive construction area, as the Howard Hughes Corporation is developing its revamped, outdoor mall on the pier, Meer said he hopes to add reason for tourists and locals to head out to the pier.

They plan to be open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. weekends.

A preliminary menu includes Pat LaFrieda burgers, a selection of hot dogs, gazpacho, grilled corn with lime, along with fries, tater tots and buttermilk onion rings.

Community Board 1's Seaport Committee gave its support to Meer's bid for a beer and wine license.
