NEW YORK CITY — Lonely in the city? Looking for someone to cuddle up close to on a raw rainy night? Someone who is "enthusiastic and ready for whatever fun deed or mischief you will propose" and has "great leash manners?"

Animal Care & Control has unveiled an OkCupid-like app to help those lonely-hearts in the city browse for four-legged companions.

Most pets are posted with an handsome headshot and many include descriptive biographies, often written by AC&C volunteers.

"Lyric is in mint condition, like coming out of a grooming salon, healthy and well nourished," the bio for a 7-year-old, floppy-eared, American Staffordshire Terrier mix reads.

"This girl is full of joie de vivre — her energy level and friendliness are off the charts!" a volunteer wrote about a white and brown rabbit named Allena.

Leaders at the AC&C are hopeful the new tool will do a better job of connecting people with pets who desperately need homes.

"The app for iPhone makes this process easier than ever by connecting potential adopters with accurate information about our available animals in a simple, easy to use format," said Risa Weinstock, AC&C’s Executive Director. "This will ultimately result in more adoptions and lives saved."

There are currently 288 animals up for adoption on the app. You can sift through all the animals by dogs, cats and rabbits or search by keywords like breed or age.
