Friday, April 10
The just-opened Havana Film Festival is showcasing more than 45 films from and about Latin America, the Caribbean, and Latinos in the United States. The line-up includes a tribute to acclaimed Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez; a retrospective celebrating the presence of music in Cuban cinema; and other films from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, Venezuela and the United States. Though the Quad Cinema in Greenwich Village is the main venue, screenings will also take place at multiple venues throughout the city, including Manhattan, Queens, and the Bronx. Individual tickets are $14, and festival passes are available from $50.

The Global Mashup pairs musicians from different countries and invites them to to perform together on one stage. They each share a set of their own music, then come together for an unrehearsed, extended collaborative jam session. The series kicks off with "Cuba Meets Hawaii" with Cuban group Cocomama mashing up the rhumba with the Hawaiian music of the Josh Kekoa Cho Trio. Dance Lessons from 7 p.m., concert and jam from 8 p.m. $15/$10. Flushing Town Hall, 137-35 Northern Blvd, Flushing, Queens.

Saturday, April 11
New York City’s only Kansas City Barbeque Society-sanctioned cookoff is happening Saturday at Historic Richmond Town. Eat or compete in the NYC BBQ Cookoff — either way, get your fill of classic American BBQ at one of America’s most remarkable living history town and museum complexes. 441 Clarke Avenue, Richmondtown. Adults $10, kids $5.

Join Lincoln Center Local for a free screening of Douglas Carter Beane's Tony Award-nominated play "The Nance." Nathan Lane plays Chauncey Miles, a homosexual comedian who plays a campy gay character for laughs on the stage during the 1930s. After the screening, playwright Douglas Carter Beane joins for a live discussion and Q&A about his play. From 4 p.m. at Lincoln Center Education, Brooklyn Central Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza, Brooklyn.

Sunday, April 12
The Tour de Staten Island is a non-competitive bike ride through the neighborhoods of New York’s southernmost borough, offering rides of either 35 miles or 55 miles. Both routes are supported by rest stops stocked with healthy snacks and water. Pack a lunch or bring some cash to purchase additional snacks or a full meal along the way. $35 or $45. From 8 a.m. Register here.

Spring is the perfect time to explore Central Park. The North Woods is the largest of the Park's three woodlands, a 40-acre forest retreat in the middle of New York City. Join Central Park Conservancy guides for The North Woods Tour, a free guided hike observing the waterfalls, bridges, and picturesque pools of the North Woods. From 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Charles A. Dana Discovery Center, inside the Park at 110th Street between Fifth and Lenox Avenues, Upper East Side.
