PENN STATION — Long Island Rail Road service was briefly suspended in both directions ahead of the Thursday evening rush after a person was fell onto the tracks while moving between cars, officials said.
LIRR service was halted at roughly 3:20 p.m. and resumed approximately 4:30 p.m., an MTA spokesman said.
The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital roughly at 3:37 p.m. for undisclosed injuries, a spokesman for the FDNY said.
The woman was panhandling on the LIRR and fell onto the tracks while she was walking between cars when the train was pulling out of track 17, sources said. The train was traveling around 5 to 7 MPH, the MTA said.
Images posted on social media showed customers packed into the station waiting for trains.

The woman broke her leg and ankle from the fall, sources said.
