QUEENS — Mayhem broke out at the Resorts World Casino late Friday night as a man fired shots in the parking lot and a massive brawl erupted involving dozens of people inside the gambling hall late Friday night, authorities said.

It was not immediately clear whether the shots fired in the parking lot of the casino, were related to the brawl inside the casino, police said.

But the casino planned to beef up security in the wake of the violent incidents.

The melee involving about two dozen patrons inside the casino, at 110-00 Rockaway Blvd. was caught on video and shows people yelling, hurling chairs and exchanging punches.

The brawl erupted at 10:40 p.m. during the grand opening of a daiquiri bar called Fat Tuesday and was started by customers irritated by the long wait for drinks, according to published reports

The bar will remain closed until further notice, the casino said.

Two men were arrested and one person was issued summonses for offenses including disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, police said.

The casino said that several people suffered minor injuries in the incident, including security staff.

Around 10:50 p.m. Jaquan Roberts, 22, allegedly fired several shots in the casino's parking lot, police said. Authorities checked surveillance footage around the casino and identified Roberts as the suspect using facial recognition technology as well as a license plate reader, police said.

Officials said that they searched the area and local hospitals looking for possible victims, but no one seemed to have been struck by bullets.

Authorities said that Roberts has at least six prior arrests. The results of those cases were not immediately clear, but police said that in 2010, he was arrested for possession of a loaded .22 caliber revolver after he shot himself in the right leg.

Officials described Roberts as about 6 feet tall and weighing around 180 pounds.

"The safety of our patrons is Resorts World's top priority, and there is absolutely no room for this kind of behavior at our facility," a spokesman for the casino said in a statement.

"We are reviewing all aspects of this unfortunate event and are fully committed to taking steps to ensure similar acts do not take place ever again."
