Is That The Staten Island Ferry Pulling Into King's Landing? IT IS!

By Nicholas Rizzi | April 1, 2015 4:37pm

We're launching a new blog called This Is New York, where we get a little more conversational. We hope you like it.

"Game of Thrones" author George R.R. Martin previously said that he based King's Landing — the capital of the Seven Kingdoms in his books and T.V. series — off of what he imagined Staten Island was like when he looked at the bright lights on the island from his apartment in Bayonne, N.J.

So, we made this composite image of the Staten Island Ferry pulling into Kings Landing.  Looks just like St. George, right?

The Staten Island Yankees plan to host Martin at a "Game of Thrones" night at the ballpark.

The Yankees will change their name to "The Direwolves" that night in honor of creatures from Martin's books. Also, Martin's a Mets fan and wouldn't set foot in the Yankees's stadium.
