FINANCIAL DISTRICT — The NYPD recently told a Lower Manhattan newsstand owner to cover up his salacious selection of adult magazines after 15 years of selling them in the area.

Taslima Newsstand, at 88 Fulton St., had been displaying adult magazines with explicit images of full frontal nudity on their covers, sparking anger from one local.

“I moved in last year and passed by him every day and think it’s just disgusting,” said Nick Soh, 23. “I just kept thinking about all the young kids who pass by and how disturbing it is.

"Neighbors in my building agreed, but no one really did anything about it.”

Soh said he asked the newsstand to take down or cover up the display several times, but to no avail. So, he went to the 1st Precinct with his complaints.

Last week, the NYPD asked the owner, Sumon Mih, to cover up any magazines displaying naked breasts (showing the nipple) or genitalia.

Nude butts, however, are okay under the law, according to police.

Mih said he was pretty surprised that the NYPD asked him to cover up the magazines after all this time.

“I’ve been here so many years, and no one ever said anything,” Mih said. “I don’t fight because these magazines don’t sell anymore — but if they were big sellers, I’d want to see what laws or regulations they were talking about.”

“I mean, to me it doesn’t really make sense,” he added. "Other guys like me still show these magazines, and no one stops them."

The display case on the side of his newsstand still features scantily clad women — with one magazine featuring a topless woman with a tiny star covering her nipple.

"We'll check up on him again, make sure he's not showing anything he's not supposed to," said a police source.
