GREENWICH VILLAGE — A pregnant woman was assaulted inside an ATM vestibule Monday morning by a knife-wielding man who threatened to stab her and kill her unborn child unless she handed him cash, DNAinfo New York has learned.

The 35-year-old expectant mother entered a Bank of America on Sixth Ave. and Eighth St. at 10:30 a.m. when the man rushed in behind her and demanded money, or he would “cut you and kill your baby,” sources said.

The frightened woman, whose name was withheld, then emptied $400 in cash from a bank ATM and gave it to the thief, who fled. He was described as a heavyset man in a brown jacket. The woman was not injured, sources said.

Sources say that detectives have identified a possible suspect, but declined to release his name.

They asked anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS. All calls are kept confidential.
