ASTORIA — Kids up to age 12 can watch "The Wizard of Oz" in 3-D at the Museum of the Moving Image for $6 beginning next month.

The museum will be showing daily matinees of the 1939 classic in 3-D during spring recess of public schools, which starts Friday, the museum announced.

The screenings will take place at 12:30 p.m. from April 3 through 12 in the museum's Redstone Theater. The 3-D version of the beloved film was just released by Warner Bros. last year for its 75th anniversary.

"A quintessential road movie, musical, coming-of-age story, and more, this timeless classic has never looked better," the museum's curator, David Schwartz, said in a statement.

"The eye-popping color approximates the original Technicolor prints, and the vivid 3-D only enhances the experience."

The museum will also offer character design workshops after the screenings, where kids will get to create their own characters based on Oz's Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion, Tin Man and others.

Tickets to the screenings, which include admission to the museum are $12 for adults, $9 for students and seniors, and $6 for kids 3-12.
