QUEENS — Captain Judith Harrison, the commanding officer of the 112th Precinct since last summer, will be promoted to deputy inspector Friday, officials said.

Harrison, whose mother worked in a civilian post for the NYPD, wanted to be a police officer since she was a little girl Getting promoted only several months after taking over the Forest Hills precinct was "a dream come true,” she said.

Harrison learned about the promotion on Wednesday and said "it was totally unexpected."

"I’m very excited," she said Thursday. "It’s great to be recognized."

Heidi Chain, president of the 112th Precinct Community Council, was "thrilled that Capt. Harrison's efforts are being acknowledged."

Councilwoman Karen Koslowitz also recognized Harrison's achievements during the annual Woman's History Month ceremony on Thursday night.

Harrison began her career at the NYPD in April 1997 and, over the years, she's mostly served precincts in Queens, including the 103rd Precinct in Jamaica and the 102nd Precinct in Richmond Hill.

She was promoted to sergeant in the 104th Precinct in Ridgewood and lieutenant in the 109th Precinct in Flushing.

Harrison became captain in January 2013 and later served as the executive officer of the 115th Precinct in Jackson Heights, where she also commanded the "impact zone," an initiative that started in 2003 aimed at reducing and preventing violent crimes.

She's also worked at the Police Academy, Patrol Borough Queens North and Community Affairs Bureau.

"It’s a combination of a lot of hard work and dedication," Harrison said about her recent promotion. "I’m going to continue to work hard and this really motivated me to work even harder.'

Overall crime in the 112th Precinct, which covers Forest Hills and Rego Park, is down by nearly 15 percent this year, according to statistics provided by the NYPD for the period of Jan. 1 to March 15.
