UPPER WEST SIDE — A female mugger has been targeting older women near Riverside Park, brandishing a blade while demanding they hand over either their purse or money, police said.

The mugger approached a 72-year-old woman walking near Riverside Drive and West 89th Street at about 5:30 p.m. on January 18 and flashed a knife before telling her to hand over her purse, the NYPD said.

The victim gave up her handbag and the suspect fled, police said. No one was hurt.

More than a month later, on Feb. 28, the suspect sat down on a bench next to a 62-year-old woman near Riverside Drive and West 84th Street about 6:40 p.m. and told her she had a knife before demanding cash, the NYPD said.

The victim said she didn't have any money and began to scream, at which point the suspect fled empty-handed, police said. No one was hurt.

Police described the suspect as being in her mid-20s, standing about 5 feet, weighing 125 pounds and with long black curly hair.
