UPPER WEST SIDE — A would-be burglar was caught inside a child's bedroom after breaking into an apartment on West 64th Street last month, police said.

The apartment's resident, 36, came home about 11:40 a.m. on Feb. 25 to find the female suspect in the bedroom, police said. It was not clear if a child was inside at the time.

The resident then confronted the woman, who immediately fled the apartment near Columbus Avenue without taking anything, police added.

The suspect got into to the 15th-floor unit through the front door, which was left unlocked, police said. It was not clear how she initially got into the building.

The suspect was described as standing 5-foot-9, weighing roughly 130 pounds, and wearing her long black hair in a pony tail, police said.
