FAR ROCKAWAY — An 11-year-old boy escaped a would-be kidnapper Saturday afternoon who yelled at him to "get the f--k in my car right now," police and a community watch group said.

A man approached the boy on Mott Avenue and Bay 24th Street around 2:00 p.m. in a black Nissan Altima, police said. The man got outside of the car and yelled at the boy to get inside, police said.

The boy started to run away from the man, who chased him while yelling "get into my car right now," and ran into a neighbors house, said Sholem Klein, coordinator for the Rockaway Citizens Safety Patrol (RCSP).

"The boy ran into a neighbors house and the boy was yelling that somebody just tried to kidnap him," said Klein, who added a member of the RCSP was in the house at the time.

The group called the police and the boy's parents then sent seven cars out to canvas the neighborhood, Klein said.

The RCSP described the suspect at 5-foot 8-inches tall, weighing around 220 pounds and 30 to 40 years old. Police described the car as black Nissan Altima with chrome trim around the doors.

Klein said his group has received several calls about people seeing the vehicle, and another resident shared more security camera footage of the car with police.

"We're just urging the community if anybody knows who this individual to please come forward," Klein said. "We are very afraid that this individual will try to hit again."

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
