QUEENS — A man shot in the back in South Ozone park Wednesday afternoon ran into a deli looking for help, a worker told DNAinfo New York.

William Marte, 28, was working at the Allen Deli Mini Market at 109th Avenue and Van Wyck Boulevard a little after 5 p.m. when he said a young man ran into the bodega and told the worker he was shot by an acquaintance.

"I thought he was playing around until he laid down and showed me the wound,” Marte said, adding that the man was bleeding from his back.

Deli workers gave the wounded man water and called police.

The man told workers he didn't know why he was shot, Marte said.

The victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital and is expected to survive, an FDNY spokeswoman said.

Police did not have any immediate information on a possible suspect or motive for the shooting, an NYPD spokeswoman said.
