QUEENS — Kew Gardens is going to the dogs.

The area will soon transform into a neighborhood version of the Westminster Dog Show with local dog owners getting a chance to photograph their pooches walking around the neighborhood and see their pictures displayed at an exhibit.

“There are so many dog owners in this neighborhood,” said Carol Lacks, one of the organizers and the owner of a Shih Tzu named Cody.

“And so many people just love watching their dogs walk down the red carpet,” she joked.

Pictures sent by dog owners will be printed out and displayed at "Walk Your Dog Photo Exhibition" in a recently opened playroom for pets at Dog Days and Cat Nights, a doggie daycare on Metropolitan Avenue, in April.

Dog owners are asked to photograph their dogs with “a glimpse of their community somewhere in the picture,” said Lacks, adding that residents from other neighborhoods are also welcomed to participate.

“Capture your dog’s finest moments in a photograph,” the organizers wrote on a flier.

The organizers also said that they hope the exhibit will help local dog owners to get to know each other.

“It’s a neighborhood" initiative, said Joseph Martinez, the owner of Dog Days and Cat Nights.

The opening reception is scheduled for Saturday, April 18 (from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.) and Sunday, April 19 (from noon to 5 p.m.). There will be snacks for both dogs and their owners. Pet owners should only bring their pooches if they get along with other dogs. The show will be on view for at least 3 weeks.

Those interested in participating should email one photo in JPEG format to kewgardensarts@gmail.com by April 1. Dog owners should include their name, their pet’s name and a one-line caption (optional).

Dog Days and Cat Nights is located at 118-25 Metropolitan Ave. in Kew Gardens.
