NEW YORK CITY — Get your all-weather gear ready, the city's about to get all weather.

The next few days will bring a slushy mix of freezing rain, sleet and yes, more snow, meteorologists said Monday.

Snowfall is expected to begin early on Tuesday afternoon and sprinkle the city with one to two inches of fresh powder.

"The afternoon commute looks like it happens at the wrong time," Faye Barthold of the National Weather Service said with a laugh.

With temperatures warming up Tuesday night, precipitation will slowly morph from sleet to freezing rain, then graduate to regular, old rain throughout the day Wednesday with temperatures in the mid 40s.

Then Wednesday night, more snow, with flurries finally tapering off by midday Thursday. The week will finish out clear with temperatures in the 30s.

"[It's going to be] sunny and cool throughout the weekend," Barthold said. "It's going to be warmer than it has been but not the 60s you're hoping for."
