TRIBECA — A burglar broke through the wall of a TriBeCa pizza place last week and swiped $1,000 from its cash register and tip jar, police said.

A store employee of La Bellezza Pizza told police that when he opened the 315 Broadway shop at 8 a.m. on Feb. 21, he found the cash missing.

As he searched the shop, looking for where a burglar might have broken in, he found a wall in the pizzeria's basement had been smashed through.

The pizzeria, which sits at the base of an apartment building and is sandwiched between a liquor store and a McDonald's, shares basement walls with its neighbors.

A store employee, who declined to give his name, said he thinks the thief managed to get into through an adjoining storefront at 315 Broadway, then headed down to the basement to break in.

Police were still investigating the burglary as of Tuesday.

Other recent crimes in the 1st Precinct include:

► A man had his $6,000 Kawasaki motorcycle stolen from the corner of Jay and Hudson streets on Feb. 21, police said. The owner parked the green motorbike at about 3 a.m., and when he returned later in the day at about 6 p.m., his ride was missing.

► A man who fell asleep while riding the 1 train on Feb. 18 had his wallet cut out of his pants pocket by a thief, police said. The man, who had been drinking, dozed off on the train, and when he awoke at the South Ferry stop, at about 6 a.m., he found his wallet, which contained $660, had been sliced out of his right front pocket.
