10 Places to Watch the Oscars in NYC

NEW YORK CITY — "Boyhood" backers can argue all they want with "Selma" stalwarts: the "Best Picture" Oscar winner will go down in history this Sunday, February 22 with the 87th Annual Academy Awards. Plenty of venues around town will be hosting parties where you can watch the ceremony:

1. "The Big Oscars Quiz Thing" at (le) Poisson Rouge

The Greenwich Village art cabaret is starting its Oscars party early - from 5:30 p.m. Sunday night - with an Academy-Awards themed version of interactive trivia game show The Big Quiz Thing. Win made-in-NYC prizes and afterwards watch the show, from red carpet to final envelope on (le) Poisson Rouge's enormous screens. 18+ Advance tickets cost $10 for table seating (2 tickets minimum, plus a minimum purchase of two food and/or beverage items per person) or $10 for standing room spots. 2. Free Oscar Party Videology

If you're a movie nerd in north Brooklyn, go no farther than Videology, the Bedford bar known for its classic film screenings and Sci-Fi Sundays. Check out the 87th Annual Academy Awards on their big screen in the back room. The show starts with the red carpet preview at 6:00 p.m. Free admission, no cover. 308 Bedford Ave., Williamsburg. 

3. "Hypno-tronic Comics Oscar Party" at Nurnberger Bierhalle

Staten Island may be far from Hollywood, but film enthusiasm won't be lacking at Nurnberger Bierhalle. They're hosting local comic book mecca Hyno-Tronic Comics's annual Oscar Party, replete with prizes, giveaways, drink specials and ballot casting. 7:30 p.m. through midnight or later. 817 Castleton Ave., West Brighton. 

4. "Oscar Party 2015" at Playwright Irish Pub 35th

You don't need to streak through Midtown to make it to Playwright Irish Pub's Oscar viewing party. They'll challenge the crowd with "old school Oscar trivia" at 5 p.m., collect ballots at 7:30 p.m. and broadcast the show on every screen. More information is available here. 27 W. 35th St., Midtown.

5. Oscar Party at Caffe Vivaldi

Classical music institution Caffe Vivaldi is branching out to film with a big-screen screening of the awards, featuring an Oscar ballots plus snacks and drinks. 7 p.m. Email caffevivaldireservation@gmail.com to secure seats. 32 Jones St., West Village.

6. The Oscars at Mott Haven Bar

This Bronx bar/restaurant/coffee roaster is broadcasting the awards from every screen this Sunday. Admission is free, no reservations required. 1 Bruckner Boulevard, Mott Haven.

7. Free Academy Awards Screening at Symphony Space

The uptown performing arts center is offering a free screening of the Oscars at 8 p.m. in its Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theatre. $5 beer and wine specials will be available as the show is projected onto the big screen. They're also screening Best Foreign Film nominee "Ida" just beforehand at 6:30 p.m. and those who purchase tickets to see the film will get first seating to the awards. 2537 Broadway at West 95th Street, Upper West Side.

8. Oscar Party at Lucey's Lounge

Guests are encouraged to dress up for the red carpet and velvet ropes at the annual Academy Award bash at Lucey's Lounge, where they'll be screening the show, serving special food and cocktails, and offering their annual Academy Awards contest with prizes. 475 3rd Ave. between 10th and 11th Streets, Gowanus. 

9. "The Oscars: A Red Carpet Event" at Settepani

Limited tickets are available for this Harlem restaurant's formal Oscar affair. Dress up like a movie character or a Hollywood denizen to strut the red carpet, mingle, and win prizes. Advance tickets ($45) are required; reserve them here. 7 p.m. 196 Lenox Avenue.

10. Free Oscar Party Hosted by Skint at Littlefield

Head out to downtown Brooklyn for champagne, pie, free popcorn, drink specials and the 87th annual Academy Awards. Hosted by local website The Skint, the event is free, but register here and arrive early. 622 Degraw St., Gowanus.
