CROWN HEIGHTS — A 19-year-old woman was shot several times as she was picking up her mail in the lobby of her apartment building early Friday morning, police said.

The victim had no money on her as she was going through her mailbox at 562 Maple St. near Kingston Avenue at about 1:15 a.m., when the gunman approached and tried to rob her, officials said. He then shot her in the chest and abdomen several times.

The teen was taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition and will remain there for treatment for two days or more, police and sources said.

Police at the 71st Precinct have not yet identified the suspect in the shooting and no arrests have been made. Sources said the shooter was wearing all black at the time of the incident.

In a community alert sent Friday morning, the precinct encouraged anyone with information about the crime to call detectives at 718-735-0501.
