CLINTON HILL — A new eatery whose menu and decor inspired by Northern California — including a bar made from redwood — will soon open in the recently shuttered Maggie Brown space on Myrtle Avenue.

Nate Smith, a former chef at the West Village's The Spotted Pig, is partnering with his pastry chef wife Sophie Kamin and former Maggie Brown owner Chelsea Altman to bring Bar Bolinas to the neighborhood, Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership announced.

All three members of the all-star team have a California connection — Altman's mother lives in San Francisco, Smith is from Santa Cruz and Kamin is from Marin County, where the town Bolinas is located.

They also have experience at several well-known eateries like Williamsburg's Allswell, where all three have leadership roles and Smith is head chef, Gowanus’ Four & Twenty Blackbirds where Kamin introduced savory hand pies and Fort Greene's Moe's Bar, Pequeña and Olea — all of which are owned by Altman.

The new spot will feature what Altman called "coastal cuisine," which she described as food from Northern California, including lots of seafood. The specifics of the menu are not yet decided.

But, other than a burger, the menu will be nothing like Maggie Brown's offerings.

"Bar Bolinas is a completely new venture and will be very different from Maggie Brown," Altman said adding that even the decor will be "lighter and more Californian."

"The bar will be made of redwood," she said. "We are very excited to bring some of the California inspiration here."

Bar Bolinas, located at 455 Myrtle Ave., will open in March. An exact date has not yet been set.
