Roommate Spiked Woman's Shower Gel With Ammonia, Police Say

HELL’S KITCHEN — An 18-year-old woman was taken to St. Luke’s hospital after her roommate put ammonia in her shower gel, according to police. 

The victim was in the shower on Jan. 21 at about 8:15 p.m. when she noticed that her normal shower gel was starting to burn her skin and cause a rash, accompanied by the smell of ammonia, a police report said. 

A witness said another roommate at the shared West 41st Street apartment admitted to putting ammonia in the victim’s shower gel, police said. 

The suspected perpetrator’s name was unknown to the roommates, who said she was recently discharged from the youth shelter Covenant House, according told NYPD. 

Other recent crimes in the 10th Precinct include:

► A 22-year-old woman threw a plate at a 30-year-old man inside The Diner, NYPD said. 

The woman, described as 5-foot-7 with long brown hair, threw a dinner plate at the man’s face, according to a police report, after the two got into a verbal dispute at 9 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, at the restaurant at 44 Ninth Ave.

The plate hit his face and caused lacerations to his forehead and eye, police said. 

The victim reported the crime Jan. 24, according to the report. It was unclear if the two knew each other prior to the dispute.
