MELROSE — Police were investigating a case of animal cruelty after an emaciated dog was found in a South Bronx suitcase on Thursday afternoon.

The pooch, which looked like it had not eaten in a while, was left behind 700 Morris Ave. sometime before 1 p.m. outside the Melrose Houses, according to the NYPD.

The dog was taken to Animal Care and Control and evaluated by its medical team, and he is now with the ASPCA receiving medical care.
