NEW YORK CITY — Mayor Bill de Blasio is taking a one day trip to Paris where he will meet with political leaders and members of the Jewish community in the wake of the recent terror attacks.

The mayor was set to leave for Paris Monday evening and will participate in seven events including the laying of wreaths at the headquarters of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo's headquarters, Hyper Casher — the supermarket where a gunman killed four Jewish patrons — and the site where police officer Ahmed Merbat was killed.

"The Mayor will stand in solidarity with our friends in Paris and across France to send the clear message that together we will fight terrorism and anti-Semitism at every turn, and that crude attempts to intimidate free expression will not succeed," read a statement from the mayor's office that came just hours before de Blasio's planned departure.

De Blasio will also meet with the mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo and a deputy Parisian mayor in events that will be closed to the press. A press conference in the afternoon will be followed with the final event, a visit to a Parisian cultural center.

De Blasio described the events as a "heinous terrorist attack that (tears) at the very fabric of a free society” and an “attack on those who speak freely.”

The mayor is scheduled to return to the city Tuesday night.
