MANHATTAN — Police believe a man who attacked a woman in the stairwell of her East Village building last month is also responsible for three other cases of sexual assault in recent weeks, according to the NYPD.

The man, who was caught on surveillance video wearing a black Yankees baseball cap, most recently snuck up behind a 31-year-old woman as she entered her apartment building near Chrystie Street on Jan. 14 at 2:30 a.m., police said.

He grabbed her waist and pulled her pants down but pushed her away and fled when she screamed, police said.

The NYPD released surveillance video of the man walking down the street, taken before the incident.

Police said the man also followed a 20-year-old woman into her Hamilton Heights apartment building at around 4:25 a.m. on Dec. 17. The man grabbed the woman, covered her mouth and began groping her, police said.

In another incident, the man also attacked 25-year-old woman as she entered her East Village apartment on Dec. 9 at 6:25 a.m., according to the NYPD. He ran out when she screamed, police said.

Police believe the man is responsible for two other similar incidents: a sexual assault that took place in the stairwell of a Sixth Street apartment building on Dec. 28 and the groping of a 19-year-old in the lobby of her FDR Drive building on Dec. 16.

The man is between 5-foot-4 and 5-foot-11, in his early to mid 20s and weighing between 150 and 180 pounds, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
