SOHO — A cashier at Duane Reade was held up by a thief claiming to have a gun, police said.

The employee at the chain drugstore told police the robber walked into the 459 Broadway store at about 11:40 p.m. on Jan. 11 and spent a few moments idling in front of a shelf of feminine products.

The thief then rushed to the cashier and demanded that he “hand over all the cash in the register,” while pointing what appeared to be a gun in his pocket at the employee, police said.

The cashier, who told police he feared for his life, gave the robber what was in the register — a total of $160. The thief said he “didn’t want any problems,” and then fled the shop.

Duane Reade did not immediately return a request for comment.

Police were still investigating the crime as of Tuesday.
