QUEENS — A piece of a Southwest Airlines plane's wing broke off after it collided with another plane on the tarmac of LaGuardia Airport Tuesday morning, officials and witnesses said

An American Airlines Boeing 737 was arriving from Dallas and taxiing to a gate about 10:49 a.m. when its tail collided with the Denver-bound Southwest 737's wing, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

No one was injured in the incident, the Port Authority said. The collision did not cause any significant delays, the Port Authority added.

A chunk of the Southwest plane's wing tip broke off during the collision, according to witnesses on Twitter, who posted photos of an airport worker pulling the broken piece off of the ground.

The Southwest plane's 143 passengers were bused back to the terminal and the plane was taken out of service for repairs, according to a statement from the company.

American Airlines said in a statement that its plane was being evaluated for damage and that passengers for its next planned trip would be moved onto another aircraft.
