MANHATTAN — An 87-year-old woman was found dead in her apartment early Sunday after a fire tore through the flat, police said.
The woman, whose name was not immediately released, was found dead inside her home at 216 E. 36th St., between Third and Second avenues, after the FDNY brought the blaze under control about 1 a.m., according to the NYPD.
She was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The city's medical examiner will determine an exact cause of death, officials said.
Fire marshals were still investigating what sparked the blaze, police said.
