Subway Pickpocket Swipes Wallet With $450 in Cash, Police Say

PARK SLOPE — This pickpocket knows how to pick 'em.

A sneaky thief pinched a wallet containing $450 in cash during a rush hour ride on a crowded R train, according to a police report.

The 36-year-old victim was on her way home from Manhattan on Dec. 8 when she was "bumped and pushed" about 6:30 p.m. as the packed train was nearing the Union Street stop in Park Slope, according to the report. The thief walked away with a wallet containing the cash, a platinum American Express card, a zip drive, other credit cards and a driver’s license.

Other notable crimes in this week's blotter at the 78th Precinct include the following, with details from police reports:

► A woman had $1,150 worth of DJ equipment stolen out of the trunk of her car while it was parked on Fourth Street near Fifth Avenue on Dec. 10. The 31-year-old victim came back to her vehicle and found the left rear window smashed, and blood spots on the trunk. When she opened the trunk, she found her Acer Aspire laptop and Seagate Expansion hard drive missing.

► A man left his car at a parking garage on the evening of Dec. 11 and returned the next morning to find it stolen. The 52-year-old victim left his keys inside his 2012 Infiniti SUV and left the vehicle in the care of two garage attendants on Flatbush Avenue near Grand Army Plaza. When he came to pick up the vehicle at about 6:10 a.m. on Dec. 12, it was gone.

► A quick thief snatched a cellphone from the hand of a woman as she was about to put it in her pocket. The woman, 46, was standing at the bottom of the stairs at the Seventh Avenue F train stop on Dec. 12 at 8:15 p.m. when two people approached her from behind. One grabbed the phone and they both ran up the stairs. The phone was a pink BLU Studio 5.5.

► A thief grabbed a wallet from a woman’s shopping cart while she was at the Marshalls at the Atlantic Terminal mall. on Dec. 12 about 5:30 p.m. The thief then used the victim’s debit card to spend about $1,100 at Target. The wallet was a $225 Dooney & Bourke wallet containing an American Express card, a Visa card, a check book, driver’s license and debit card.

► A laptop, Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and business papers were stolen out of a man's 2015 Mercedes-Benz while it was parked outside the Lowe’s on Second Avenue near 12th Street on Dec. 12 about 3 p.m.

► Rims and 20-inch tires were stolen off a 2014 Cadillac Escalade parked outside on Carroll Street near Eighth Avenue on Dec. 6 about 6:10 pm. Thieves also stole rims and 18-inch tires off a 2012 Acura MDX while it was parked at Third Street and Sixth Avenue on Dec. 13 at about 11:15 a.m. It wasn’t clear whether the two thefts were related.

Major crimes in the 78th Precinct have dropped 9.4 percent this year compared with the same period in 2013, according to the latest NYPD figures.
