LOWER EAST SIDE — The “tacos” from a soon-to-open pop-up restaurant are far from traditional.

Goa Taco, which will open at 79 Delancey St. on Friday, swaps tortillas for parathas, a traditional Indian flatbread, said chef and owner Duvaldi Marneweck.

“Basically, I describe to people who don’t know [parathas] as the buttery, flaky love child of a tortilla and a croissant,” he said.

He then takes the flatbread, which is about twice the size of a regular tortilla, and adds fillings inspired by his world travels, like slow-roasted pork belly and homemade chicken chorizo.

“When it comes to food, I mix things up a bit,” he said.

Marneweck first began selling the food from a stand at Smorg Jr. over the summer and decided to try out the Delancey Street storefront for the colder months.

For fans of the food stand, the pop-up will include some familiar offerings, like a turkey breast or tofu banh mi-inspired taco and a honey-spiced butternut squash taco with salsa verde, kale and pepitas, he said.

Goa Taco will also serve its signature pork belly taco with pickled red cabbage and chipotle mayonnaise, as well as a homemade chicken chorizo taco with a Brussels sprout slaw and fontina cheese.

Tacos will cost $7 or $8 each, he said.

Marneweck is still finalizing the menu, but he plans to offer new items, like paratha “quesadillas,” a chocolate croissant-inspired taco and egg-filled tacos for weekend brunch, he said. He also hopes to open for lunch about two weeks after opening, Marneweck said.

The new 300-square-foot location, which will seat about a dozen people, will also serve beer, wine, margaritas and bloody marys. The pop-up will be open for at least a month, Marneweck said.

Goa Taco will be open from 5 p.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to midnight Sunday. Click here for more information.
