MANHATTAN — A mugger broke a 69-year-old woman's arm when he snatched her purse and knocked her to the ground on the Upper East Side, police said.

The woman, whose name was not released, was walking along East 83rd Street about 10:30 p.m. Nov. 9 when the man came up behind her and wrenched away her purse, containing her cellphone and some cash, an NYPD spokesman said.

Police did not provide a cross street for where the robbery took place.

In addition to breaking her arm in the fall, the woman also suffered cuts to her face and hand, police said.

She was treated at an area hospital, police said.

The suspect, who can be seen in a photo released by police, wore a blue baseball cap, a black vest over a blue long-sleeved shirt, and light blue pants.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477).
