CLINTON HILL — A crew of new businesses are hitting the Fort Greene/Clinton Hill scene — including a flower arrangement shop, a custom bookbinding company and a bar and live-music lounge in a former hardware store.

Each of these businesses are run by entrepreneurs who want to bring something new and quirky to the neighborhood.

The owners of Honeysuckle florists plan to add a mobile component to their business where customers can create arrangements using samples that the owner brings around the neighborhood on a bike.

Jonna Twigg of Twigg's Bindery will allow customers to watch as books are being hand made.

Plus Sisters restaurant/bar will have a vinyl-focused DJ booth with a collection of the best reclaimed records.

Honeysuckle

Samantha Smerconish recently launched floral arrangement business Honeysuckle with her friend Kathleen Rader. The business owners, who also work as baristas, make custom bouquets from locally sourced flowers and offer recurring weekly and monthly delivery options.

When the weather warms, they plan to take their business on the road. Honeycycle, a mobile flower shop on bicycle, will wind through Fort Greene, Clinton Hill and Prospect Heights giving customers the option to create their own arrangements from samples.

"We are currently building the bike which will have a...water source at the base to keep flowers fresh," Smerconish said. "Then people can come up to the bike and choose their stems and fillers and create whatever they like."

They also specialize in floral crowns.

Twigg's Bindery

Artist Jonna Twigg is set to open a bookbinding shop at 85 Fort Greene Pl. in December.

The shop will sell handmade leather and paper tomes with blank pages used to write, keep a journal or draw. The shop will also carry small notebooks and watercolor books for artists. Books can be custom-made using a variety of colors for the cover and spine.

There are also plans for workshops and events in the space in the new year.

Plus customers will also have the chance to watch their books being made.

"People are often so inspired to see things being made by hand," Twigg said. "I am excited to expose people to that and have a tactile experience in the shop."

Twigg's background is in preparing and curating paper-based museum collections.

Twigg's Bindery is celebrating a soft opening on Dec. 13.

Sisters

Owned by Damon Gordon, the man behind Park Slope's Flatbush Farm, Sisters opened last month in the former Sister's Community Hardware Store space at 900 Fulton St.

The venue is part restaurant, part bar and also serves as a music venue with a focus on vinyl. DJs are set to play music from a collection of records and live bands are booked for the small stage in the back of the venue.

The restaurant seats 60 with a menu that includes bone marrow with picked shallots and toast, duck casoulet with flageolet beans and some grilled baguette and seared scallops with roasted fennel.
