Thief Charges $5K to Credit Cards of UWS Man Who Brought Her Home From Bar

UPPER WEST SIDE — A woman who went home with a man after meeting him at a bar Downtown stole his credit cards and ran up $5,000 in charges, police said.

The victim, 22, brought the 25-year-old suspect back to his apartment on West 76th Street between Amsterdam and Columbus avenues about 3 a.m. Sunday after meeting her at the unspecified bar, the NYPD said. 

When the man awoke about 4:30 a.m., he found the woman gone along his credit cards, police said. 

The victim discovered the next day that $5,000 had been racked up on the cards, police said.

The suspect has not been identified and an investigation is ongoing, police added.

Other notable crimes in the 20th Precinct include: 

► A man was arrested after breaking into a West 86th Street convenience store by smashing the shop's glass, police said. The would-be thief, 42, broke into 86 Convenience Store near Amsterdam Avenue about 3:30 a.m. Saturday, triggering the shop's alarm system, the NYPD said. Police responded to the scene and caught him red-handed, they said. Additional details, including the man's identity, were not available. The owner of the convenience store was not available for comment. 

► A mugger pushed a 51-year-old woman to the ground and stole her iPhone 6 as she was walking near Central Park West last week, police said. The victim had her phone out on West 76th Street between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West about 8 p.m. Nov. 19 when the robber, 25, shoved her to the ground and grabbed it before running away, police added.

► A man had $21,000 in property and cash stolen from his BMW parked on West 63rd Street, police said. The victim, 35, returned to his 2014 BMW about 11 p.m. Saturday to find the front passenger-side window broken and his Apple laptop, cash and credit cards totaling $21,000 gone, according to the NYPD. The car had been parked between West End Avenue and Freedom Place.

► A man had his cellphone and wallet stolen from a locker at the YMCA on West 63rd Street, police said. The victim, 63, returned to the locker at 11 a.m. on Nov. 18 to find the lock broken and his phone and wallet, containing $300 and credit cards, stolen, police said. The YMCA did not immediately return a request for comment.
