SOUTH STREET SEAPORT — A new Seaport studio wants to turn New Yorkers into "modern warriors" through martial arts, yoga and meditation training.

Warrior Bridge, at 275 Water St., will teach classes in aikido, jiujitsu, tai chi, Ashtanga yoga and meditation — disciplines that owner Gary Snyder said help people tackle life’s daily obstacles.

“I think these practices build on each other, and help people handle what life throws at them with compassion, strength and wisdom,” said Snyder, 58, a black belt in the Japanese martial art of aikido, which focuses on deflecting against an attack, rather than kicking and punching back.

“That’s sort of what we see as the modern warrior — moving through the world with more confidence, and relaxing in the face of adversity.”

The ground-floor studio is set open on Jan. 17, and courses will be open to students of all levels, Snyder said.

Classes will be priced at about $20 apiece, and a monthly unlimited membership will cost $220. There will also be deals for purchasing several classes at once.

Snyder, a private art dealer, has been teaching and studying martial arts for more than 35 years. For about eight years, he taught aikido out of a studio in Chelsea, Aikido Kokikai NYC. He's closing that down for his move to the Seaport.

"Our goal is to offer training for the mind, body and spirit," Snyder explained. "It's a workout for keeping healthy mentally and physically."
