MANHATTAN — A thief lifted a wallet from an unsuspecting 75-year-old woman in Manhattan and used her personal information to steal from two banks in Pelham Parkway early last month, police said.

The woman realized her wallet was missing when she tried to get on the subway at West 59th Street and Columbus Circle, according to the NYPD.

The thief, who can be seen in surveillance photos released by police, then went to a TD Bank at 650 Pelham Parkway about 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 9 and deposited a check from the victim's checkbook before withdrawing $1,000, NYPD officials said.

The female thief left the TD Bank and rounded the corner to pull the same scheme at a Chase branch at 2126 White Plains Road, this time withdrawing $500, police said.

The suspect, who the NYPD described as in her 40s, has gray hair and glasses, according to surveillance photos.

An NYPD spokeswoman couldn't say how much time elapsed between when the victim realized her wallet was missing and the withdrawals.
