Woman Put in Chokehold in Central Park Mugging, Police Say

CENTRAL PARK — A woman was put into a chokehold and robbed by two muggers in Central Park late Wednesday night, police said. 

The victim, 24, was returning from visiting a friend and exited the 2/3 subway station at West 110th Street and Lenox Avenue before walking south into the park along East Drive about 11:50 p.m., the NYPD said.

At East Drive and East 109th Street, she was approached a man and a woman who were both wearing dark clothing, police said. The male suspect put the victim in a chokehold, and they both fell to the ground as he struggled to take her purse, according to the NYPD.

The woman managed to nab her purse, which contained credit cards and $5, and fled with the male suspect on foot toward the 2/3 subway station at West 110th Street, police said.

The victim did not report any injuries to police and could not provide a further description of the two robbers, the NYPD said.
