BROOKLYN — A convicted rapist pretending to be a police officer forced a teenage girl to have sex with him after saying he'd arrest her if she didn't comply, police said.

Walter Barnes, 47, pulled his 2010 Lexus LS460 up beside an 18-year-old girl at Gates Avenue and Broadway, in Bushwick, as she was on her way to buy cigarettes about 6:30 a.m. on Oct. 2. He convinced her to get into the vehicle with an offer to drive her to the store, according to the NYPD.

Once she got in, Barnes, who spent time in prison for beating and raping two girls aged 14 and 17, convinced her that he was a police officer by spouting police jargon into a hand-held radio and then indicating he knew officers in a passing NYPD van, officials said.

Barnes then drove to Aberdeen Street and Bushwick Avenue where he told her that if she did not have sex with him she would be arrested, police said. She reluctantly complied.

Afterwards, he drove them over to Sherlock and Herkimer streets where he made the same demand and she again complied, police said.

But when Barnes tried to undress her, she fought him off and ran into a nearby building pleading for help, police said.

Barnes fled the scene but was caught in front of his Mill Basin home about 8:20 a.m. Wednesday, an NYPD spokeswoman said.

He was arraigned on rape and police impersonation charges and held on $250,000 bail at Rikers Island, jail records show.

He's due back in court on Monday, records show.

Barnes raped, beat and choked two teenage girls on Oct. 10, 2001, according to sex offender records.

He was convicted on May 17, 2002, and served the next 3 years and 6 months in Attica until he was released on parole in January 2006, records show.

Barnes, who also uses the aliases Rodney Hayes and Darryl Jones, was previously released from prison in 1992 after serving two years for robbery, prison records show.
