WILLIAMSBURG — A man robbed a Capital One bank in Williamsburg last Wednesday by passing a note to the teller saying he was "ready to kill and die," police said.

The man, who had a goatee and a mustache, walked into the bank at 416 Metropolitan Ave. on Nov. 12 around 4 p.m. looking "like a normal customer," with his face uncovered and a light-colored sweater, police and the teller said.

The teller, a 30-year-old woman whose name DNAinfo New York is withholding, approached the man to help him, she said. He then passed her a folded note that said "I am ready to kill and die," police said.

The note also said "I have a gun, and I’m going to use it," the teller said. "Give me all your 50s and 20s. You have less than one minute to do what I say. I have a partner watching for you at my register."

"I got really scared," she said. "I froze completely. My arms went numb."

She unlocked her drawer and passed him more than $3,800 in cash, she said. One other customer and another co-worker on the floor did not notice what was happening, the teller said.

Once the man started walking away, she began to yell, "I got robbed, I got robbed," she said. The co-worker immediately went to close the front door, the teller said, but the man had left with the cash.

He did not display a gun, police and the teller said. The man was described as being about 5-feet-2-inches tall, 150 pounds and 38 years old, police said. He was wearing blue jewelry, police said.

The teller said the robber looked familiar to her.

The incident left her afraid that he lived nearby and may return, she said. She took last Thursday off, but she was still fearful to return to work Friday.

"I was dizzy, and I wanted to throw up," she said. "I was really nervous."

No one has been arrested for the crime.

Other notable incidents in the 90 precinct include:

► A part-time security guard at a local shoe store stole thousands of dollars in sneakers over the course of a month, police and the store manager said.

The 28-year-old man had been working at V.I.M. Jeans and Sneakers for about a month when managers realized that he had been stealing sneakers and taking money from customers who left with shoes, police and store manager Omar Farooque said.

On one day, he took money from customers 10 times, Farooque said. Other times, he would steal sneakers himself, including Nike, Adidas and Converse shoes, the manager added.

In total, the store probably lost about $5,000 in merchandise from the man's crimes, Farooque said.

"I was shocked," Farooque said. "Everybody couldn't believe it."

The store filed a police report on Nov. 11. The man was fired but has not yet been arrested.

► A 30-year-old woman lost out on $1,500 after a landlord she contacted through Craigslist stopped responding to her inquiries, police said.

The woman said she had reached the landlord after finding the South Third Street apartment on Craigslist, police said. She transferred the $1,500 cash to him but then did not hear back by Nov. 10, police said.

Money was taken from her account, police said. No one has been arrested in the incident.
