STATEN ISLAND — A sanitation worker for a private company was crushed to death when a large dumpster he was unloading from a truck fell out and pinned him against a concrete wall in Todt Hill Wednesday night, police said.

The 40-year-old employee of Flag Container Service Company, whose name was not immediately released, was unloading the truck behind the Richmond County Country Club at 900 Todt Hill Road about 10:50 p.m. when he was crushed, according to the NYPD.

He suffered severe head and torso injuries and was pronounced dead at Staten Island University North Hospital, police said.

Investigators believe the man's death was an accident, a police spokesman said. No arrests had been made as of Thursday morning, the spokesman said.

Flag Container declined to comment and the country club did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
