STAPLETON — A free music and arts festival on Staten Island will raise money to buy new instruments for public schools in the borough.

The Inspired by Us "Musication" festival, organized by the Projectivity Movement and Stereotype Co., plans to bring 11 local bands, several music-themed art projects, and to record a song with festival goers at 5050 Skatepark on Friday.

The proceeds from the event will go to the LARK Fund, which donates and repairs musical instruments in public schools around the borough, said Dave "Noodelz" Nudelman, owner of Stereoptype Co.

"'Musication' is a word we kind of conjured up, it's the celebration of music," he said. "We just wanted to help the Staten Island community. We just feel like art programs are a little overlooked and we wanted to give them a little love."

Aside from the bands, the festival includes a 3D Printing station where people can make figures of themselves, a "Blessed" pop up shop where "people can count their blessings," a gallery of vinyl records painted by nearly 30 artists, a live mural, a custom cassette art booth, a photo booth and break dancing, Nudelman said.

He said all booths were based around the theme of music with a big focus on recycling objects previously used in music to make art.

"We tried to just to take all the inspiration from things from music," he said. "We kind of wanted to use those things as creative platforms for artists. Everybody's used to drawing on a canvas and a big board."

The group also wrote a song with two local artists and will let concert-goers sing the chorus at the festival. They will then master the song and release it afterward, Nudelman said.

The festival builds off last year's art festival at 5050 Skatepark by the Projectivity Movement that raised money for the LARK Fund.

Nudelman said he was planning on hosting his own music festival at the skatepark by himself, but he and the organizers of last year's event decided to combine efforts to create a larger festival.

"A year ago I was just selling hats at the event and now I had the opportunity to think up how to fill up the room with cool stuff," he said. "It's like a dream come true."

The free "Musication" festival will be on Friday at 5050 Skatepark, 354 Front St., from 8 p.m. to midnight. For more information and list of bands, visit Stereotype's website.
