Monday, November 10
For the Canstruction annual design competition, teams of architects, engineers and the students they mentor compete to build large-scale sculptures made entirely from unopened cans of food. The structures are then on view to the public until they are dismantled and donated to City Harvest for distribution to those in need. Admission is free, but please bring a can of high quality food to the exhibition’s collection station. 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., daily through November 20. Brookfield Place Winter Garden, 220 Vesey St, at West St., Financial District.

Tuesday, November 11
Get your skates on! New York City's only free admission rink, The Bank of America Winter Village at Bryant Park, is now open. The rink opens early and stays open late (8 a.m. until 10 p.m.) and offers more than 17,000-square-feet of ice to glide upon. While skating is free, skate rental is $15 (increasing to $19 between November 26 to January 4). Bryant Park, behind the New York Public Library, between 40th and 42nd Streets and Fifth and Sixth Avenues, Midtown.

Wednesday, November 12
The Armory’s Under Construction Series offers audiences an inside look into the creative process of the their artists-in-residence. Current fixture, New Yorker magazine writer and musician Sasha Frere-Jones, is presenting “The Fall: A Performative Screening” Wednesday evening, a performance influenced by Peter Whitehead’s 1969 cult film “The Fall,” which explores the power of art to change society and the ways in which radical politics are transformed through memory. Board of Officers Room, 643 Park Avenue, Upper East Side. $20.

Thursday, November 13
Beginning Thursday and running for a week, DOC NYC is a film festival that celebrates the finest documentaries being made today, which encompass reportage, memoir, history and humor. Centered around three Downtown cinemas — the IFC Center, the SVA Theatre and Bow Tie Chelsea Cinemas — the DOC NYC schedule includes more than 150 film screenings, live conversations, extended panels and special events. A variety of festival passes are available including a $500 All Access Pass (includes entry to all ticketed festival events) through to the $199 Insider Pass and $125 Doc-A-Thon pass. Single tickets are also available.
