QUEENS — Nature lovers and joggers who frequent Forest Park say that the sidewalk and the main path in the park are so rundown that they pose a safety hazard.

“It’s horrendous,” said Ed Wendell of the Woodhaven Residents' Block Association, who goes to the park regularly.

The cracks and holes in the sidewalk along the main path in the park are occasionally patched, but the path requires major repairs, residents said.

“Almost the entire thing needs to be replaced,” said Wendell. “It’s broken and it’s dangerous.”

Wendell said that recently he took “two nasty falls in Forest Park.”

Last year, he said, he tripped on a cracked sidewalk, and a few weeks ago, he slipped on loose gravel.

Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley, who represents the area, said that she has "spoken to both DOT and Parks regarding the streets and sidewalks in Forest Park."

"Both agencies are aware of the issues, and I am hopeful they will take action by the end of the fiscal year," she said.

Wendell also said he is planning to push for the repairs at a participatory budgeting meeting that will be held by Councilman Eric Ulrich on Nov. 15.

Ulrich’s district, which includes Woodhaven and Ozone Park, does not cover Forest Park, but his office said that it would consider proposals related to the park because a lot of Ulrich's constituents use the green space.

The Parks Department did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.
