JACKSON HEIGHTS — A radiology and imaging center featuring 3-D mammograms opened in a building on Northern Boulevard that has been empty for years.

Main Street Radiology at 72-06 Northern Blvd. opened with limited services on Oct. 6, but has since expanded its offerings — modern ultrasounds, mammograms and stress tests, according to assistant director Todd DiLeonardo.

The building's owner originally eyed it as a catering hall or restaurant, but it stayed empty for nearly a decade, DiLeonardo said.

Main Street Radiology, which has three offices in Bayside and Flushing, decided to expand to western Queens in the 11,500-square-foot space.

"This lets us cover Jackson Heights, Elmhurst, Corona, Astoria and Long Island City," DiLeonardo said

They take nearly every insurance company and offer state-of-the-art imaging services, and in December will be the only center in Queens with 3-D mammography, called tomosynthesis.

The radiology center, which opened its first center in 2000, prides itself on constantly replacing their machines and staying on top of the latest technology.

"We update the equipment every five years," he said. "That's how we stay above the rest."
