INWOOD — One of Uptown’s most unique fundraisers — featuring elaborately decorated bras created by residents and local businesses to help with breast cancer research — is back for its second year Thursday night.

Brazen Lingerie owner Anina Young has partnered with Indian Road Café’s monthly Drag Bingo event to raise money for breast cancer research by auctioning off the creations — which include a superhero-themed bra that reminds women to get mammograms, as well as one covered in origami cranes.

Proceeds from both the silent auction and purchase of the bingo cards will go toward the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

The event last year, held at Inwood Local, featured about 10 bras and raised $400, Young said. She is hopeful that this year will bring in even more money.

“I really think it will be much more this year because we have so many more bras and we’ll also be raising money from the bingo cards,” she said.

A total of 44 bras will be up for the auction, including Young’s creation “Fly Me to the Moon,” which features an airplane, Jupiter and Mars.

“I’m sort of a science geek,” Young joked.

This is the third event for Drag Bingo, which started at the Indian Road Cafe in August. Each month, the organizers choose a different charity to benefit, with proceeds coming from the sale of bingo cards.

Young provides the bras for people to decorate and then tells them to let their imaginations run wild, she said. Some of her favorites this year include “Keep Your Tentacles Off My…” which features an octopus, and “Flor-ish,” which is covered in flowers and embroidery.

“Last year was pretty amazing, but this year each one that comes in is more amazing than the last,” Young said.

Behind the whimsy of rhinestones and flowers, however, lies a very serious cause.

"You just have no idea how many people it's affected," Young told DNAinfo of her decision to raise breast cancer research funds. "Almost everyone knows someone, or they have a friend of a friend, who had to deal with it."

The event kicks off at 8 p.m. Thursday at Indian Road Cafe, 600 W. 218th St. Donations can be made by check or cash.
