ASTORIA — The owner behind lifestyle boutique Lockwood has opened a sister shop next door, a women's clothing store called Lockwood Style that will carry items from local designers and look to cater to women of all sizes.

Lockwood Style, which opened Saturday at 33rd Street and Broadway, sells a mix of clothing, handbags and jewelry and will carry sizes 2-20, according to owner Mackenzi Farquer.

"We're different than a lot of the other indie clothing boutiques in that we're going to have every size," she said. About a third of the store will be devoted to sizes 14 and up.

Clothing at the shop will include dresses, jeans, coats and shoes, as well as hosiery from Japan, including tights with fun patterns like polka dots and fleece-lined leggings for winter.

Farquer said she they want to offer outfits customers can don to work or to a special event like a wedding, as well as for more playful occasions like a birthday party or date night.

"It'll be a mix of price points and designs but all really wearable," she said. "Things that are flattering, things that are affordable."

Dresses at the shop will range from $55-$200, jeans will run about $60-$75 a pair and coats will cost about $75-$150, she said.

Lockwood Style will also carry some local designers, including the Astoria-based Cabiria and jewelry from Emilie Shapiro in Long Island City.

Farquer, who has a background in interior design and also writes for the neighborhood blog We Heart Astoria, first got into the local retail scene in 2007 when she opened SITE NYC, a housewares and accessories store at 35-11 34th Ave.

She closed that location last year and re-opened as Lockwood in a bigger space on 33rd Street, just off Broadway, selling furniture, clothing, toys and gifts.

When the space next door to Lockwood became available, she originally hoped to turn it into an expanded shop for kid's toys, but changed her plan after feedback from customers who said they'd rather see women's clothes.

"The more we looked into it, the more people were super eager about clothing," she said. "The initial response has been overwhelming. People seem really excited about it, so I'm grateful for that."

The store will host a grand opening party from 6 to 9 p.m. on Nov. 7, where items at both stores will be 15 percent off.

Lockwood Style is currently open weekdays from 12 to 8 p.m., and weekends from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
