KINGSBRIDGE HEIGHTS — An 8-year-old girl was killed and five other people were injured after a car jumped a curb and struck them outside a Bronx elementary school Friday afternoon, according to the NYPD.

A 55-year-old woman was behind the wheel of a Honda Accord parked in front of P.S. 307 at 124 Eames Place when it abruptly went into reverse and hit four adults and two 8-year-old girls at about 2:46 p.m., a police spokesman said.

“I heard a car screeching and then I heard screaming,” said a 10-year-old student whose name is being withheld. The boy had just walked out of the school when the accident happened.

One girl was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital where she died at 3:31 p.m.

“Today we mourn the loss of a young student. My heart breaks for this child’s family and the entire school community,” schools chancellor Carmen Fariña said in a statement. “I am closely monitoring this situation and we are working with the NYPD to investigate this tragedy. There will be guidance counselors on site to support students, parents and school staff.”

It was not immediately clear if the girl was a student at P.S. 307.

The other girl was taken to Jacobi Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The four adults were all taken to St. Barnabas in stable condition.

The driver was not arrested and remained on the scene.

“I walked out of school and all the kids were screaming,” said another 9-year-old student. “I saw kids injured and adults injured. I was scared.”

The NYPD is investigating the incident.
