Man Punches and Sprays Straphanger with 'Unknown Substance,' Police Say

QUEENS — A man punched a subway rider in the face and sprayed him with an "unknown substance" after fighting with the victim’s girlfriend at a Jamaica J train station last month.

The assault happened on Sept. 14 around 10:20 a.m., after the suspect bumped into the woman on the platform of the Parsons Boulevard and Archer Avenue station, police said.

They began arguing, but the woman’s boyfriend got involved.

The suspect then punched the victim in the face and then sprayed him with an unknown substance before fleeing on a southbound J train, police said.

The 23-year-old victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition.

Police described the suspect as being in his 30s. He was last seen wearing a blue jean jacket and blue jeans.
