Inspired by the book “A History of the World in 100 Objects,” urban affairs correspondent for The New York Times Sam Roberts chose 50 objects that embody the narrative of New York for a feature article in the paper in 2012. In response, hundreds of more suggestions came from readers, notable historians and even Michael Bloomberg. Roberts expanded the list to 101 for his new book, “A History of New York in 101 Objects,” and a selection of the objects make up this exhibition at the New York Historical Society. Culled from the Society’s expansive collection, the selections share the criteria of having played some transformative role in the city’s history. 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., 170 Central Park West at 77th Street, Upper West Side. $19.
