SUNSET PARK — A couple riding a motorcycle on the Gowanus Expressway died early Friday after losing control of the bike and falling more than 35 feet onto the street below, police said.

Jose Chevere, 30, and Jalissa Otero, 24, were riding eastbound on the expressway about 2 a.m. near 17th Street and Third Avenue when Chevere, who was driving, misread a curve in the roadway and slammed into a cement wall, police said.

The two riders, who police said were dating, were thrown off the Kawasaki motorcycle and landed roughly 36 feet below onto 17th Street under the expressway, according to police.

Both Chevere and Otero, who lived in Brooklyn Heights and Bay Ridge, respectively, had serious body trauma and were pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, but police do not suspect any criminality in the case.
