MIDTOWN — The Old Navy store in Herald Square was evacuated Thursday evening due to a fire, FDNY officials said.

Fire officials said they responded to a call at the 150 West 34th St. store about 6:45 p.m. and were able to bring the fire under control within the hour. The fire broke out on the second floor in the storage room, the FDNY said.

Samantha David, 39, who lives in Spanish Harlem was on the third floor with her 3-year-old and 10-year-old daughters when the fire broke out.

"People were screaming, 'Fire, fire!' My heart just jumped," she said, adding that she grabbed the girls and proceeded down the escalator. "I was just trying to look down the escalator, I had my baby in my arm."

David said she smelled smoke, but didn't actually see it or any signs of fire. Those inside the store left in an orderly fashion and were not panicking too much, she said.

Officials are investigating the cause of the fire and said no one was injured in the incident. Traffic was free to move on both sides of 34th Street by about 8 p.m.
