CROWN HEIGHTS — A father was shot in the back of the head just after noon on Sunday by a masked gunman who hopped out of an SUV, fired the weapon and drove off, police said.

Aaron Powell, 31, was walking with his bicycle and had reached 1745 Union St., near Utica Avenue, about 12:15 p.m., when the shooter pulled up and opened fire, an NYPD spokesman said.

Powell, who relatives said had a son and daughter, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

"He was a good brother, a good son, a good father," said Powell's brother, 34-year-old Keyon Powell.

The suspect got back into the SUV and drove away after the shooting. No arrests had been made as of Monday morning, according to the NYPD.

It was not immediately clear why Powell was targeted.

"I don't know who would want to do this. He wasn't a tough guy like that," said friend Chris Morgan, 43.

Powell liked to dress well and doted on his loved ones.

"He was a great guy. He was a family guy. He took care of his mom. He fixed up her apartment so it looked like a mansion," Morgan said.

"He spoiled his daughter and his dog. He bought Converses for his pitbull," the friend added.
